Sam Foster

Maths Tutor, PE Tutor

📍Marple Bridge, Stockport

A bit about me: Tutoring is more than a job for me, I’ve found real enjoyment helping students grow and feel more confident in their academic abilities. Having tutored maths solo for a couple years, I wanted to create tutoring where students feel more comfortable during tutoring, as I found I could connect well with my students and they seemed less apprehensive being taught by someone more relatable – so I founded Step Up Tutoring! I mostly tutor maths, getting a 9 (A*) at GCSE level and an A* in my A-Levels. I also tutor PE, achieving an 8 (A/A*) at GCSE and an A* in my A-Levels.

What are my sessions like: I aim for my sessions to be fun whilst really challenging the knowledge you don’t know, rather than get you really good at topics you are already confident in.

My favourite revision method: I find that past and predicted exam papers work well for me as they increase my end of year confidence and I know the standard of difficulty that I will be facing during my exams.

Next steps: I am going to take a gap year, work for a few months and travel the world before returning home to study Sports and Exercise Science (BSc) at Loughborough University.

Tutoring mantra: Tutoring isn’t all about passing your exams, it’s about growing your confidence, your curiosity and having a laugh while learning.

Hobbies: I play, coach and volunteer as Social Media and External Communications at Stockport Volleyball Club, and I referee football occasionally.
